Soup and Pies for Warming the Winter

We appreciate the enthusiastic response to our handmade soups.   Soup served in a 6 inch pie crust bowl got rave reviews with comments such as “what a great idea” and “the flaky crust is better than a bread bowl.”   We’ve had corn chowder, creamy chicken noodle, spicy beef stew, chicken vegetable, cream of potato, sausage and bean, and ham and green pea.  The ham and green pea was an especially good crowd pleaser.   Now that we're enjoying warm weather, we'll be concentrating on savory pies, quiches, sandwiches sold at Stockholm General, and a variety of fresh, seasonal pies such as rhubarb and peach.  Join us for soup again in the fall.

Try our  lunch special that offers a small slice of quiche with a  small slice of pie.

Shipping Pies

In response to many requests for having our pies shipped, we are now able to ship two of our most popular pies – Apple-Pie-in-a-Bag and Triple Chocolate Pecan.  We’ve been testing how best to ship pies at the most reasonable cost.

Bakeries throughout the country ship pies, charging $30 to $40 for shipping and handling in addition to the cost of the pie, which can bring the total cost to $50 to $75.   We have wanted to make the cost more affordable while assuring the arrival of the pie in good condition.  We are now able to ship for $36.00 per pie, which includes the cost of the pie and shipping and handling.

We hope to be able to offer online ordering as we progress but for now pies can be ordered by calling 715-442-5505.   Pies will be shipped Monday through Wednesday with expected arrival in two days.

A credit or debit card will be required for ordering by phone.   If you call on day when the shop isn't opened, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Christmas Season at the Pie Shop

The Christmas season at The Stockholm Pie Company and in Stockholm helped to brighten the cold and snowy days of December.  Country Christmas, held the first weekend in December, allowed the large crowd of holiday shoppers to experience the tantalizing smells and tastes of our special holiday pies, rolls, and fruitcake.  A new Christmas pie was White Chocolate Peppermint Cream topped with homemade whipped cream and peppermint sprinkles.  Mincemeat pie was declared to be “as good as Grandma used to make.”  Pumpkin pie brought comments such as “the best I’ve tasted in a long time.”  Even the fruitcake, which people frequently claim they detest, had those brave enough to try it saying “hey, that’s good.”   We appreciate all of the compliments and special orders that helped to make our season bright.

Pie, Art and the Governor of Wisconsin

The phone rang last July at the Stockholm Pie Company. Owner, Janet Garretson answered; it was the Governor's office.  Having heard about the bantam-sized bakery in Stockholm, the staff   asked if the Governor could come for pie. The Stockholm Pie Company has garnered great praise, both from the regional press and the droves of customers that have discovered the handmade from scratch pies and baked goods since the shop opened in May of 2008.  But having the Governor of Wisconsin stop by was quite an unexpected and exciting honor for The Stockholm Pie Company and the tiny Village of Stockholm (pop. 97).

The Governor's motorcade arrived about 3:45 P.M. on Thursday, July 23, en route to Hudson, Wisconsin for a meeting with the Governor of Minnesota the following day. The Governor; Secretary of Tourism Kelli Trumble, Secretary of Agriculture Rod Nilsestuen, their staffs were greeted by Alan Nugent, Co-President of the Stockholm Merchants Association. In conversation with Stockholm business owners, the Governor heard about the newest addition to the village - the WideSpot Performing Arts and Community Project - in the soon-to-be-restored historic Stockholm Opera Hall. He asked for a tour and was shown the upstairs hall in which he spent about 30 minutes meeting and greeting local residents and visitors.

The Governor's contingent then proceeded downstairs to The Stockholm Pie Company. One staff member was overheard stating, "...this has to be the best piece of pie I have ever had." The Governor ordered a sampler of a half-slice of Key Lime and a half-slice of Cherry. He then toured the Abode Gallery, a gallery specializing in local fine arts and handcrafted furniture and The Good Apple, a shop specializing in Wisconsin-made foods, wines, beers and gifts.

Stockholm, Wisconsin is located on the shores of the Mississippi River on Lake Pepin - one of the most scenic stretches of the famous waterway. The thriving village is home to over twenty charming shops, boutiques, fine art galleries, great restaurants and exceptional lodging establishments.  It is known regionally and nationally as a haven for artists and art lovers alike and is one of the region's premier daytrip and weekend destinations. TravelWisconsin.com recently rated the village as one of the "top five shopping hot-spots" in the State of Wisconsin. NBC affiliate WEAU aired an article on Stockholm the same day as the Governor's visit. You will find that video available at www.weau.com.
